History and background:

When the time of pandemic of Covid-19 spread globally, Nepal was not left untouched. At that time, one hand, the government had to isolate and treat the Covid patients in quarantine, on the other hand, the challenge was to protect other ordinary citizens from the infection of Covid-19 was very critical. In the terrible situation where hundreds of citizens are dying day by day, the government alone is having difficulty in doing the work of treatment, rescue, relief and rehabilitation of Covid-19 affected people. As conscious citizens in times of hardship, we, the indigenous youth of Dang District, Ghorahi and Tulshipur Sub Metropolitan city Dang Nepal, voluntarily collected some relief in cash and kind and conducted a campaign to support the government’s relief fund to response Covid-19 pandemic. At that time we also assisted the government in managing essential medicines, food and equipment’s for the patients as well as health workers. The Kabila Multipurpose Cooperative was later on established after the normalization of the Covid-19, the same youths formed a youth saving and entrepreneur group and started informally doing saving and credit related work, encouraging the youth members to enter the enterprise, providing enterprise and vocational-skill development training, etc.

As a result, many young indigenous people who joined this youth group and started preparing and selling indigenous food, dishes, indigenous alcohol and handicraft materials. The youth group itself started operating a shop with indigenous handicraft materials as Kabila Gift House. Likewise, Kabila Resort was also brought into operation for the customers to taste the local tribal food and dishes.

Legally, the Kabila Multipurpose Cooperative has been established in May 2023 however it has started its business in 2019 by young youth groups. The Kabila Multipurpose Cooperative Organization has been working for the economic and social transformation of the cooperative members by doing several business. Especially making its members entrepreneurial, providing training related to entrepreneurship, providing training to make indigenous handicraft materials, providing loan support for business operations, and the cooperative itself is also operating a cooperative Kabila Gift House as a model business, operating Kabila Resort for customers to taste the taste of tribal food and dishes, etc. Apart from this, this cooperative is also doing the work of providing technical knowledge and skills to the member farmers and businessmen who are conducting agricultural and non-agricultural business.

The Kabila Multipurpose Cooperative institution is established in accordance with the decision of the initial meeting of indigenous youths group dated 27 August 2019, and legally registered using the authority given by section 23 of the Lumbini Province Cooperative Act 2019, dated 10 May 2023; for socio-economic transformation of the members by promoting the spirit of self-reliance and mutuality among the members by adopting cooperative principles, values ​​and beliefs of Nepal government. Provision of necessary resources as well as professional and community services, development of enterprises, production, productivity and growth by using skills, technology and effort to achieve the prosperity of members through equality and equity, collection, storage and processing and marketing of products produced through the overall development of the agriculture and non- agriculture sector. And with the aim of contributing to the building of a prosperous and just society through cooperative culture by expanding the members. Right now 750 members have joined this cooperative which started with 69 youths in 2019.
